The fireworks in July continue for the Sooners staff, as they land a commitment from 2023 4-star running back Daylan Smothers.

A 6’0, 183 pound all purpose back put of Charlotte, North Carolina, Smothers eerily resembles his future position coach, DeMarco Murray. As a freshman in high school, Smothers ran an 11.58 100 yard dash. His speed doesn’t tell the whole story though, as Smothers also excels at catching passes out of the backfield.
Smothers held 32 total offers and took official visits to NC State, Florida State, and ultimately Oklahoma. Schools like Alabama, Ohio State, and Tennessee also battled for the Carolina speedsters talent.
Daylan is ranked as the nation’s #7th running back, #4 player in the state of North Carolina, and the #171 player nationally.
“Hollywood” ran for 1,581 yards and 28 touchdowns as a junior, and was also named offensive player of the year the past 2 seasons by a local newspaper. Smothers has had an incredible high school career already. He was named Mr. Football in North Carolina by a Charlotte newspaper after his sophomore season, which is awarded to the best player in the state.
